Moon Lee - a life of denial

Moon Lee – a life of denial

I have never been a fan of web gossip, both in English and Chinese, so needless to say,
I do not follow the lives of the “rich and famous” in China and Asia.  This is especially
true for the rich or famous celebrity in the entertainment industry because their
personal stories are even more meaningless for a person in my position.  So I depend
on Chinese friends to keep me updated – and I do not even care about celebrity gossip
most of the time.

Poor Moon Lee apparently does not get listed as an “A” list actress even of the past
because she was an action star and was never involved in films of dramatic content.
Yet she is nearly always included in lists when scandal or sexual misconduct is discussed.
How sad for a woman who as a youngster was forced by life’s circumstances to build
something out of nothing.  Moon Lee’s physical beauty was nature’s gift to her even
though these attributes were not shared by any of her siblings.  She used this and her
athletic qualities to her great advantage starting as a late teen.  Even as a “B” actress
only excelling in action films, she was nevertheless the target of admiration of action
fans worldwide.  Over her scandalous betrayal and her unrealistic greed in the divorce
process, Moon and I might have become irreversible enemies, but I know her well
enough that I believe in her saner moments she would agree that she indeed squandered
too much in the chase of so little.  The impoverished and uneducated teenage lover boy,
Zhong Tianyi, was not worth it then and now for all the heartache and shame that resulted.

As for me, what was thought a tragedy has truly become a blessing in disguise.   Many
friends, and even my mother, often comment on how fortunate I am to have a wife like
Alyssa Xiaoli Wang now.  She has indeed merged as a star of a wife and mother and has
made me the envy of many.  We occasionally still re-tell stories of the past only to be
amused by how interesting life can be and how miraculously things can all work out.
Lesson learned is that even “B list” movie stars can be very bad bets on life’s journey;
they may all suffer the fate of living life too often as make-belief.

Now we are set to put on the American premiere of our “first-in-the-world” 3D show,
Terracotta Warriors 3D, for a four week run in Denver in August.

These are great times!

MOON LEE --- "SLEEPLESS IN MACAU"

For all that are concerned about the fate of Moon Lee, I can help by disclosing that I believe she is living in relative seclusion in Macau.  She has returned to writing in Chinese in her blog about “nothing” and is determined not to reveal her whereabouts or whatever is happening to her life.

There was a period of months in the recent past when Moon Lee kept her blog essays to a minimum.  For a while, there might have been reason to believe that she would act to keep her notoriety on the Chinese web to a minimum.  That would have helped to reduce the repetitive recitation of her self-induced scandal in the Chinese media.  Well, that is now clearly not the case.  Moon has been writing essays frequently in her Chinese blog about her travels, her domestic life and other topics without redeeming value to the delight of her limited fans.  Even though we have now terminated our use of a publicist, I might as well continue efforts to maintain her ‘fame” in the English language.  Moon clearly does not want to slip into oblivion and let her scandal slowly recede into distant memory.  It is a farce that the Chinese web brings up her “passion gone wild” scandal weekly while she fuels her ignorant fan base with essays about nothingness.

About eleven years have elapsed since Moon Lee started her life-changing and destructive extra-marital affair with a kid that soon became her adopted son.  It started when she was about 39 years old and the unworthy kid was a little under 18.  Unless Moon cares to personally explain, no one will ever know the reasons why she plunged into this emotional and sexual abyss.  Even though the Chinese media has attributed her actions to my accusations of her “unusually prominent sexual appetite”, this is de facto incorrect.  Regardless of the reasons behind her madness, the much needed divorce process took four years due to a dysfunctional US court system while she gained very little financially of what she asked for from the Court.  As a matter of fact, I know for certain that the judge’s final ruling was devastating for her.  Unable to control herself, she cried openly in Court and pleaded with the judge to no avail.  She moved away from Denver three months later, never to reveal where she would be headed or any of her future plans.

During most of the divorce process, she touted motherhood and made many references to her son and family life as a single parent.  That was strange because, prior to the divorce, Moon always concealed that she had a son from a previous marriage.  Towards the end of the divorce process, she stopped referring to her son altogether, and since the divorce was adjudicated, she has become totally mute about her son, her work if any, or anything else that may be deemed “personal”.  Even though my own life has experienced remarkable and fulfilling renewal, I cannot help but feel sorry for Moon and her son.  What a remarkable descent from heaven to hell in one’s life --- and all this for what?  She would deny that she is in hiding because she does travel and is not confined to her residence.  For certain, though, she is in partial seclusion!

My present wife, Alyssa, is an amazing woman and also an incredible mother to our daughter.  My life after my surgical career has blossomed into professional avenues that are new, challenging and gratifying.  I have directed and produced the first Chinese Rock-Musical, Monkey King, in 2008 and this went on to win a Toronto Dora Award for Best Choreography, and also received a Dora nomination for Best Costume Design.  Monkey King, the live-theatrical show, was then shot into the world’s first cinema quality 3D movie, and later went on to win the Best Foreign Film Award at the Korean 3D Film Festival.  Recently, I produced and directed the world’s first ever truly 3D theatrical show, Terracotta Warriors 3D.  This history-making theatrical phenomenon has already played in Beijing and Hong Kong for nearly a hundred performances.  With new gains and potentials nationwide in China, my production company is heading for new plateaus of achievement.  Check out this theatrical spectacle at www.tcw3d.com.

An open letter to Moon Lee --- from her ex-husband

My family and I had engaged a publicist, Ms. Nat Daniel, to “engage” your on-going attempts to fuel your fan base in recent years.  I have just informed Nat that you have not posted a new blog essay in 38 days, the longest interval that I have noted.  If this represents your sincere attempt to stop the foolishness of still flaunting your “celebrity” status, then I would stop Nat’s campaign to propagate the real truth behind your actions of years past.

I now have the perfect new life after the divorce.  As I said before, my family and I are NOT focused on your past conduct or misconduct; there is nothing now for me to forgive or to forget.  You and I both know where the truth lies.  What we cannot tolerate is your continued actions to push your popularity within your fan base through your sina.com blog.  Fans by nature are silly and ignorant anyway because they have no first hand knowledge of their idol.  They live vicariously on what they believe your real personage could be.  So we do not care that your fans like you and follow you avidly.  What is annoying is that your attempts to maintain your “image” constantly feeds an interest in your “personality” and thereby fuels more attention on your notorious sex scandal.  As long as the website pundits keep writing about your ratings as a movie star embroiled in a famous sex scandal, then my name is dragged into it as well.

If you were tired of being scandalized, then it would help if you stop flaunting yourself in any capacity.  If you would like to continue to “fan” your fan base, then we would help you become more famous than you would ever want --- there is still a lot of truth about you that can be told.

With your past actions, it is wiser to be invisible.  Hopefully, people can forget your once upon notoriety and therefore not list your misconduct over and over again in the media.  Choose wisely and we can both have this behind us!

Moon Lee is as guilty as sin by Natalia Khan Daniel

As a woman and usually sympathetic about women’s causes, I must confess that I agree with the Dr. Dennis Law family’s attitude to press the issues of Moon Lee’s guilt and personal failings unless she accepts responsibility for her actions or until she relents on furthering her popularity or flaunting her false innocence on her Chinese blog.

We knew that, at the time of the infamous “Closet Affair” scandal, the Chinese media was robust in covering all the news and gossip because Moon Lee was indeed a media darling of the past.  Despite overwhelming publicity about this incredible story of lust and betrayal, the English-speaking world on the US side where Moon lived at that time was conspicuously kept in the dark.  When I did some research, it became clear that Dr. Law would be in more legal jeopardy with his divorce proceedings if he had made public statements about the facts of the sexual scandal.  Colorado divorce laws, as in many other states in the US, are “no-fault” by statute.  Therefore, any attempt by any side to make statements about sexual indiscretion of the other party would not only be irrelevant by law but may infuriate the judge for inflaming the opposing party without receiving any legal advantage.  That would explain the need for total silence in the English-speaking world in North America.

At this later date, I agree that it is meaningful to set the record straight in the English-speaking world regardless of the magnitude of interest, large or small.  Moon Lee had for the longest time continued a subtle campaign to flaunt her “good side” on the Chinese web.  That is her right!  But it is also our right to make the truth behind one of the most spectacular sex scandals of Chinese modern history become an indelible record in cyberspace for the purpose of historical archiving.  It is grossly unfair for Moon Lee to plead her innocence without any contestation.

All over the Chinese web, there are still weekly new essays by website pundits that repeatedly portray this celebrity scandal of historic proportions.  Some simply write about the truth.  Some accuse Dr. Law of blaming Moon’s absurd extra-marital affair on her strong sex drive – an accusation that was fictitious and invented by a Hong Kong magazine because de facto, Dr. Law would never have been stupid enough to make any self-deprecating statement about her sexual drive or inclination.  Some writers would write about the nasty divorce where both sides accuse each other of affairs but no one could ever know the truth.  Even though the last assertion itself is factually true, we all know that the real truth exists.  Dr. Law knows it; his wife knows it; his daughter knows it; all members of his company know it; and I know it too well too after all the interviews and research.

I am a woman, and I cannot accept her piety.  Moon Lee’s sexual affair with her “adoptive” son was obscene and stupid.  Her seduction of a minor (also an employee) was probably illegal even in China.  Her denial of the truth was incredible.  Her attempts to rob her husband and the Law family during the divorce were devious and immoral.  Her flaunting of her clean life and her wholesomeness after the divorce is disingenuous and deceitful.  Her active blog writings fuel a celebrity status that just invites more nuisance and proliferation of lies.

So if Moon Lee continues to indulge in her “goodness” on her blog in order to keep her “celebrity” alive, it is necessary for us to sustain a campaign of the truth in the more sane English-speaking world.  The fact of the matter is that I will be ordered to stop this campaign only if Moon Lee either admits her misconduct or stops publicizing her image.  It is just that simple!

The Moon Lee Affair --- ONLY THE WAY to a hellish life by Natalia Khan Daniel

In my Hong Kong trip recently, I viewed the DVD of the movie, Only the Way, a “real piece of work” that Moon Lee produced and acted in while she was in the height of her divorce in 2008.  That was another unexpected shocker!

I was told Moon was responsible for re-writing the script for first time director and close personal friend, Dung Tak Wing.  After watching this totally embarrassing movie, it is easy to understand why it received recognition as the number one “Shit Film” in Hong Kong that year.

It is bewildering enough for anyone to believe that a satirically funny movie about the Buddhist faith can ever be made for Chinese moviegoers.  It is even more unfathomable why Moon Lee would choose to write into the dumb movie script a replay of her real life scandalous affair with an unworthy teenager.  Worse still, the then confused Moon, together with the idiotic first time director Dung, decided to use the real life transgressor to act the role of the errant kid in the film --- including actually seducing the twenty-one years older Moon Lee in bed and soon after being caught red-handed by the husband.  Those decisions in 2008 transcend any logic and reasoning, and for most thinking people, actions like those would raise questions about the mental health of the participants.  Did Moon make that choice as producer because she thought making fun of the real-life facts would discredit the truth?  In retrospect, including reading some articles by reporters, most sensible people believed that facts of the reported scandal were true.  Only prejudiced relatives, close friends and fiendish fans of Moon Lee believed otherwise --- and that number was tiny in comparison to the population at large.  Moon Lee and director Dung made something already bad into something intolerably horrible.  They truly became the epitome of the Hollywood movie, Dumb and Dumber!

Examine the movie photo (included here) that Hong Kong reporters got their hands on and published during the release of the movie in 2008.  I believed they used it with sarcastic intent.  Pictured here is the real-life scandalous teenage lover-boy, lying side by side in bed with Moon Lee, as a still photo of one of the scenes in the movie.  They look as “real life” as can be, because neither of the lovers had much theatrical makeup.  They did not even want to be transformed into another fictional character that is not their true nature.  One can absolutely believe that teenage lover Zong was as ugly as he looked in the picture, playing himself.  And the famous Moon Lee, without significant makeup help at nearly age forty, did not look any better either!  As in real life, she looked like she was an older hooker, except her services were free and she made incalculable sacrifices.  Unbelievable!!!

In the order of director Dung, lover kid Zong, and actress Moon Lee, the infamous threesome is now the “dumb, dumber, and dumbest”!

The more I find out, the more I am certain that this sex scandal is the “mother” of them all!

Moon Lee Passion Gone Wild? by Natalia Khan Daniel

On my way back to Kuala Lumpur to visit relatives for the summer, I stopped by Hong Kong and had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Law, his wife Alyssa, daughter Jade, and more importantly and for the first time, Dr. Law’s parents.  Also present were other family friends and relatives who were gathered there for the beginning of vacation trips for the summer.  What impressed me was that this was truly a family with substance and stature.  It was a lot more than their economic means and professional successes --- it was their immense sense of educational and cultural awareness and their overwhelming sense of human decency.  Dr. Law and his three medical doctor brothers just donated millions of US dollars to their alma mater school of medicine to name a new auditorium after their parents’ name in gratitude for their phenomenal upbringing.  Dr. Dennis Law’s new musical, Terracotta Warriors 3D, will open on September 2nd, 2014 in Beijing as truly the first 3D theatrical show in world history.  Later this year, he will direct and produce another new show that should bring new international pride and joy for Chinese theater --- another unprecedented 3D show that is entitled, Ode to Nature, showcasing the five virtues of Confucius and the Taoist five forces of nature in an entertaining fashion and with visual splendor never achieved before.

With such a family in the background of Moon Lee’s past family life, it shocks me to the core as to how such a woman could have done what she really did to turn her life upside down.  Moon’s historic scandal gave birth to new life for Dr. Law’s daughter and for his wife, Alyssa --- they are now on a new and gratifying pathway and that is the ultimate good thing.  But trying to reconstruct Moon Lee’s frame of mind in 2004 is frankly impossible ---- a mind that led her to begin a secret affair with an uneducated teenager with no money and worth, a kid who became her adoptive son that was twenty-two years her junior.  This was beyond passion gone wild in a one-night stand; it was a two and a half year long secret affair (until discovered) that required great strides to hide and conceal among the hundreds of people that surrounded this cast of persons in the course of their complicated theatrical business.  As an interested third person now, I know for a fact that most people in that circle in 2004 through 2007 was convincingly aware of this sexual scandal as it was happening.  The dumb teenage boy of course bragged to his few best friends about his encounters with the famous movie star, and the rest became history.  In retrospect, it must be devastatingly embarrassing for Moon Lee to recognize that she was spied on and joked about for two and half years by everyone around her before the scandalous love affair was discovered and brought to the open by Dr. Law.  Unlike other “criminals” caught red-handed and forced to admit fault, Moon Lee must be forced into forever “denial” just because the actual events were so incredibly embarrassing especially for a celebrity who previous record of personal life had been so stellar.

Indeed, the famous Moon Lee “Closet Affair” is not because of “passion gone wild” just for a fleeting moment.  It was more deliberate and long standing.  It was partly crazy and partly extremely well thought out.  Certain materials found in Moon’s stashed away personal belongings at a later date post-divorce when the house was being renovated show a narcissistic side of Moon Lee not appreciated before.   My analysis leads me to believe that she was only pretentiously humble but in fact she was quite enamored by herself.  How that may have led to her scandalous affair may never be understood.   There could not have been remotely normal sexual or romantic attraction between Moon and Zong, the unworthy kid.  There clearly was aberrant human behavior that may be attributed to “destiny” and that ultimately caused the downfall of “Cinderella”.  And tragically, most people of sound mind would believe that this “Cinderella” of Chinese motion pictures could never rise again.

Dr. Law put it aptly: “Facts are facts.  There is nothing about Moon to forgive or forget.  I want to live looking ahead, not back.  History always takes care of itself.”

TwoFacesoftheMoon.com website launched

As publicist for the Law family, I have just launched the website for the book Two Faces of the Moon.   Written by Dr. Dennis Law in 2007 as an attempt to set the record straight, it really was a heartfelt effort to put to rest a lot of guessing and rumors by the media and the interested public.
I continue to be shocked by the persistent interest in this subject matter, at least according to the Chinese web.  Just days ago, another essay was written and published on-line listing the top ten actresses that had “immorally cheated on their husbands and then getting caught”.  Log onto the following website address: http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_7964e4ec0101ubfm.html and read a blog essay written by a prolific cyberspace writer whose has had over fifty-three million visits to his blog.  See ten gloriously attractive women whose lives have been turned upside down by passion gone wild.

Recently, I reviewed Moon Lee’s blog at sina.com and I am again baffled by her present lifestyle.  She has had millions of visits on her site, yet all she does is to write about things that has absolutely no importance whatsoever to most people with productive lives.  She makes commentary on a wide variety of almost senseless subjects, as if she is the ageless guru about trivial matters.  In one of her latest entries, she talked about the value of exercise, accompanied by photos of her fifty year old body lifting her leg high enough to almost dislocate a hip.  I suppose she is trying to impress her fan base.  I called Alyssa (Mrs. Dennis Law) to have her review this remarkable pose, and I could tell she had a real good laugh.  As a dance teacher and an award-winning choreographer, she said she was not quite clear what the message behind this awkward action could have been.  Moon did not have any grace of a skilled dancer; she looked like a martial artist doing this pose forcibly as an exercise --- a risk for someone of her age, but for what purpose?

The purpose of this website is not to sell more books.  Dr. Law made it clear to me that he is not interested in book revenue.  It is just an avenue to propagate the bona fide truth.  There has been clear public interest in the subject matter.  So it is best that more facts about the past and the present get disseminated.  Dr. Law is presently in Beijing producing and directing the first 3D show in the world, Terracotta Warriors 3D, for a permanent run there.  Over the phone, I have gotten permission from him to gradually put the book’s content on the new website.  In this manner, people that are curious can get to appreciate the fascinating observations and analysis made by Dr. Law about this scandal.
